Subject: Lifesaving training – UPDATE and feedback on current status
The Management Board and Sports Committee are currently working on the submission of protocols and guidelines that will be enforced once the National Department of Sports and Recreation has approved and given permission to “return to training and general club duties for Lifesaving”. As a federation our risk mitigation strategies need to be reviewed and approved by the Department of Sport and Recreation prior to us being allowed to train.
These protocols and guidelines will contribute to the safety required of both athletes and coaches prior, during and post training. Provincial Competitions Officers in conjunction with the Sports Advisory Board have been working on these protocols and giving weekly feedback, clubs are encouraged to contact their Provincial Competition or Sports Officers to raise any issues.
With regards to the re-commencement of lifesaving training please note the following important information and feedback:
- No clubs or athletes are allowed to return to training at present in both surf and pool.
- Training can only re-commence once an office notice has been sent out by Lifesaving SA
Clubs and athletes that commence training prior to written permission given by Lifesaving SA will be acting in contravention of the law and may face disciplinary action by LSA or criminal charges by law enforcement.
Yours in lifesaving
