PRESIDENT WELCOME MESSAge

Lifesaving South Africa is extremely excited and pleased to welcome all participants, technical officials, supporters, parents, partners, and sponsors to our 2024 DHL SA National Lifesaving Championships for the first time since combining the event to Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Our National Champs certainly rates as one of the bigger aquatic sports events in the 2024 sports calendar as it includes competitors from across the country compete in both the pool and beach for the National Championship title. Over the course of this event we will see new records and new heroes emerge.

The Local Organizing Committee under the leadership of our Director of Sport, Craig van Rooyen and the Lifesaving Kwa-Zulu Natal Chairman, Troye Brown with their respective event management teams have done a lot of work behind the scenes to make these championships possible. Huge amounts of planning and preparations have gone into this event. I extend my thanks to each and every person that played a role, your hard work is noted and appreciated.

To our Technical Officials, these championships will be very demanding, and I fully acknowledge that without you we cannot host these events. I therefore extend a huge thank you to you for your time and dedication to the sport of lifesaving.

We acknowledge the role played by the club coaches and managers who took their club athletes though rigorous training to ensure exceptional preparation for the Championships.

To our competitors, I would like to remind all you that these championships act as a reward for your dedication to the voluntary lifesaving service we provide and that its primary aim is to improve your lifesaving skills. I would also like to remind our nippers and their supporters, that nippers are about fun in the sun and making lifelong friends. It is therefore very important to the Management of Lifesaving South Africa that all the competitors at these championships compete with a fair play.

Lifesaving South Africa is greatly appreciative of the partnership and support from our corporate and governmental sponsors, namely DHL, Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation South Africa, Department of Sports, Arts and Culture and last but not least The Ethekwini Municipality who have graciously hosted and funded the National Champs for this year.

On behalf of the Management Board of Lifesaving South Africa, I wish all athletes and officials the best for a successful competition of the highest order and in the finest spirit if sportsmanship.

Warm regards,

Dhaya Sewduth

President, Lifesaving South Africa
